X-Cel announced the launch of its new contacts, REMLens, which feature a Rapid Eye Molding effect to combat myopic refractive errors overnight.

“The introduction of REMLens will help ensure that patients have access to this life improving modality and, when prescribed, may reduce vision-threatening complications that higher levels of worsening myopia present, such as retinal detachment, macular degeneration, cataract and glaucoma,” Derrell James, X-Cel vice president and general manager, said in a press release from the company.

REMLens is available for all patients living with low to moderate myopia. X-Cel offers the lenses in various fits to ensure more comfort for wearers, the company said. The lenses come in five diameter sizes that offer various optic zones and use Boston Equalens II material.

Eye care professionals may use the REMLens Calculator, an online tool that helps “reduce chair time on new fits, or re-fits, and maintains historical patient information,” when introducing patients to the product, according to the release. So far, the lenses have shown an 89% first fit success rate.

“With both genetic and environmental factors contributing to myopia, it is paramount for eye care professionals to educate their patients on the risks associated with higher levels of myopia,” the company said in the release.

According to X-Cel, patients can order REMLens directly through X-Cel or its distributor, ABB Optical Group’s Specialty Vision Products division.
