ATLANTA – Through the new Natacyn Next Day campaign, Eyevance Pharmaceuticals will cover overnight shipping charges to ensure patients in need of the prescription ocular antifungal agent can receive it the next day.

Natacyn is indicated for the treatment of fungal blepharitis, conjunctivitis and keratitis caused by susceptible organisms, including Fusarium solani keratitis.

Here at SECO, Eyevance executives told Primary Care Optometry News/Healio about this just-launched program.

Natacyn (natamycin ophthalmic suspension 5%), which Eyevance recently acquired from Novartis, is typically not stocked in pharmacies because ocular fungal infections are rare, Eyevance vice president of marketing, Mario Nacinovich, told Healio. However, because it is the only FDA-approved antifungal ophthalmic medication, the company wanted to ensure that patients who need it can receive it quickly.

He also noted that Natacyn is on the World Health Organization’s Model List of Essential Medicines, which is a “list of minimum medicine needs for a basic health care system, listing the most efficacious, safe and cost-effective medicines for priority conditions,” according to the WHO website.

Nacinovich said eye care professionals can prescribe Natacyn via NatacynRARX through their electronic medical record system.
