ATLANTA — Alcon presented new product innovations at this year’s SECO meeting, including over-the-counter Pataday products, Precision1 contact lenses and Systane Hydration PF for dry eye.

Precision1 daily disposables are now available nationwide in the U.S. for eye care professionals with or without fit sets, according to company representatives at a press conference.

“This represents the culmination of 4 or 5 years of research and development from Alcon on bringing to the market these lenses — something that meets the needs of the daily disposable wearer in terms of fit and comfort,” Erich Bauman, OD, FAAO, senior director for vision care research and development at Alcon, said during the conference.

The new Systane Hydration PF is a preservative-free eye drop designed with the company’s Hydroboost Technology, a combination of inactive ingredients including sodium hyaluronate and HP-Guar.

Company representatives also discussed the launch of the Systane MyEyes patient support program. In combination with the Dry Eye Excellence Program, Systane MyEyes is focused on helping practices with education, implementation and patient retention after initial meibomian gland dysfunction treatment with the company’s iLUX system.

“Alcon developed Systane MyEyes in close partnership with optometry and ophthalmology thought leaders to address key barriers to successful management of meibomian gland dysfunction [MGD] including patient disease education and discontinuation of treatment,” Adam Szaranos, head of dry eye devices at Alcon, said in a press release. “We understand that helping patients with MGD is about more than providing innovative devices. It’s about supporting and educating them on the chronic nature of MGD and the benefits of ongoing in-office treatment and at-home maintenance, and ultimately helping practices retain dry eye patients.” – by Talitha Bennett
