EyeMedsNow is a new comprehensive database with pharmaceutical information targeted to eye doctors.

Eye care professionals (ECPs) can access this free resource for prescribing options for ocular diseases, the company said in a press release.

“EyeMedsNow provides intuitive search capability for the full range of ophthalmic medications with a comprehensive dropdown box of 100+ eye disease conditions,” EyeMedsNow President Will Kuhlmann said in an interview with Primary Care Optometry News. “The two-click search quickly gives doctors the specific medications to treat each condition in one view. OTC products are included as well as prescription ones.”

Kuhlmann explained that the database was the result of a collaboration between editors Gregory Nixon, OD, and Thomas Mauger, MD, and a team of three optometrists, three pharmacists and an additional ophthalmologist.

“Under the direction of the editors, the EyeMedsNow team studied, in detail, the package insert for each drug to extract the key information,” Kuhlmann said. “In some situations, secondary resources such as journal articles were used for further specifics about medications.”

The EyeMedsNow database can be searched by conditions, classification or key words, the company said in a press release.

Kuhlmann said the project was funded internally, although the team is now searching for strategic partners to continue their work.

He said they are finding that ECPs are using the database on a daily basis.

“Our analytics show that the ECPs who have tried it once keep coming back to the site as their go-to source for ophthalmic prescribing information,” he said. – by Erin T. Welsh
