Allergan announced the launch of its Refresh Relieva lubricant eye drop product line, an expansion of the Refresh portfolio.

Refresh Relieva, Refresh Relieva PF (preservative-free) multidose and Refresh Relieva for Contacts are over-the-counter products formulated with HydroCell technology to relieve discomfort due to eye dryness and to prevent further irritation, Allergan said in a press release.

All products in the Refresh portfolio contain carboxymethylcellulose, hyaluronic acid (an inactive ingredient), glycerin and HydroCell technology – Allergan’s proprietary sodium chloride-free, glycerin-based solution that enables hydration and maintains the volume of cells on the ocular surface, the company said in the release.

Allergan noted that 70% of patients in a study reported no blur when Refresh Relieva and Refresh Relieva for Contacts was first applied.
“This brand-new line provides doctors and patients with three unique options to treat patients’ individual needs when it comes to dry, irritated eyes and contact lens dryness,” Jag Dosanjh, senior vice president, Allergan U.S. Eye Care, said in the release.

A representative from the company told Primary Care Optometry News that the products are immediately available through most major retailers and can also be purchased directly from Allergan. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
