LAS VEGAS – AmblyoPlay announced the U.S. and Canadian launch of its new vision therapy treatment software for children with amblyopia here at Vision Expo West.

Žan Menart, AmblyoPlay CEO, told Primary Care Optometry News that AmblyoPlay provides customized, gamified vision therapy that can be done at home on a computer or tablet for 30 minutes a day.

Children are screened in the office, and an algorithm in their at-home training program tracks their mistakes and knows what to focus on in the treatment, he said.

No special equipment is required, Menart said. Glasses are shipped for free, and patients/parents pay only for an access code.

“It accomplishes what patching does without closing off one eye,” he said.

Parents will be able to measure their child’s progress with the two 15-minute daily sessions through an automated tracker while sharing the results with their child’s doctor at future eye exams, according to company literature. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO, and Earl Holland Jr.
