NEW ORLEANS – Bruder announced the launch of two dry eye products: Bruder Hygienic Eyelid Solution and Eyeleve Contact Lens Compress here at SECO.
The 0.02% pure hypochlorous acid solution is safe for daily and long-term use in patients with mild or moderate dry eye, styes, redness and itch associated with conditions such as blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction, the company said in a press release. It is also designed to help remove foreign material on and around the eyelid margins.
Stan Joseph, vice president of sales and marketing for Bruder Healthcare Company, told Primary Care Optometry News that the Hygienic Eyelid Solution, which is sprayed onto closed eyelids, can be purchased without a prescription in the doctor’s office
“Our solution is the perfect addition to a patient’s daily eyelid hygiene regimen,” he said.
Bruder explained in the press release that hypochlorous acid is a bactericidal component of the immune system that is released in the presence of pathogens. It has been shown to be highly effective in vitro against a wide range of microorganisms, fighting infection, reducing inflammation, controlling the body’s response to injury and enhancing its natural ability to heal.
The Bruder Hygienic Eyelid Solution is available in two sizes: 1 fl. oz. and 2 fl. oz.
Bruder also launched the Eyeleve Contact Lens Compress, a moist heat mask that the company said extends comfortable wear of contact lenses.
The moist heat can help alleviate symptoms of meibomian gland dysfunction and contact lens-related dry eye, Bruder said in a press release, by stimulating glands and increasing oil production.
Joseph told PCON that a clinical study conducted at the University of Alabama at Birmingham showed that patients who wore the mask daily for 8 minutes extended their comfortable contact lens wear time by 3 hours.
He noted that silver ion thread embedded in the mask is antibacterial.
The Eyeleve also features an ergonomic pod design and contoured comfort stitch to alleviate pressure on the eyes, according to the press release. — by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
