NEW ORLEANS – Bausch + Lomb announced that it received 510(k) clearance to use the Tangible Hydra-PEG custom contact lens coating technology with its Boston XO, Boston XO2, Boston EO and Boston ES lenses, including those used in the Zenlens scleral lens family.

Patrick Marsalek, senior director of specialty vision products for Bausch + Lomb, told Primary Care Optometry News here at SECO that the products will be available by the end of March.

“Hydra-PEG has been on the market for 2 years, and we're excited to have it available on leading Bausch materials and scleral lens designs,” he said.

“The combination of this coating technology with our Boston materials and Zenlens family of scleral lenses can help eye care professionals provide improved lens wettability for their patients with challenging vision needs and further deliver on our promise of providing innovative contact lens offerings,” John Ferris, general manager, U.S. Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb, said in a company press release.

B+L entered into a worldwide licensing agreement with Tangible Science in June 2018. Hydra-PEG is a high-water polymer coating that is bonded to the surface of a contact lens, designed to address contact lens discomfort and dryness, B+L said in the release. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
