Bruder Healthcare announced the release of Eyeleve, a compress clinically proven to increase comfortable contact lens wear time by up to 3 hours daily.
According to Bruder’s press release, the Eyeleve contact lens compress uses moist heat to alleviate symptoms of meibomian gland dysfunction and contact lens-related dry eye. By doing this, Eyeleve helps stabilize the ocular surface, reduce dryness and extend comfortable wear time.
“End-of-day discomfort is considered the primary reason for contact lens dropout and continues to cost the optical industry hundreds of millions of dollars per year,” Stan Joseph, Bruder vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release. “Proactively offering solutions like Eyeleve by Bruder can be an effective way to extend time to dropout and enhance overall patient satisfaction.”
Primary Care Optometry News corresponded with Mile Brujic, OD, FAAO, of Premier Vision, Bowling Green, Ohio, regarding his experience with Eyeleve.
“I have been using the Bruder heat mask for years. Clinically, it provides tremendous relief for those with meibomian gland dysfunction. We recommend utilization once a day for 10 minutes,” Brujic told PCON.
“We have traditionally thought of utilizing this technology for MGD patients, but sometimes forget to clinically connect the contact lens wearer to appropriate treatments until they experience significant symptoms or discontinue lens wear,” Brujic continued. “We now have the opportunity to intervene at earlier phases of contact lens-induced dry eye and hopefully prevent dropouts through a wellness approach”
Contact lens wearers have three times the normal level of certain eye bacteria than non-wearers, according to the company’s press release. For this reason, the Eyeleve contact lens compress EyeOnic material has antimicrobial threads woven into the compress, reducing the risk of infections. Additionally, Eyeleve features a patent-pending ergonomic pod design and a contoured comfort stitch designed to remove pressure from the eyes.
“Contact lens wearers have responded positively,” Brujic said. “The key is compliance. I find that the patient finding a convenient time during the day to perform the Bruder mask often leads to successful long-term use.”
