Bausch + Lomb introduced the Zen multifocal scleral lens for presbyopia.
Zen multifocal scleral lenses will allow eye care professionals to fit presbyopic patients who have irregular and regular corneas, as well as those with surface diseases, including dry eye, the company said in a press release. The new lens incorporates decentered optics, enabling the near power to be positioned over the visual axis.
“The Zen multifocal scleral lens was developed to address the unique vision needs of presbyopic patients,” Jason Jedlicka, OD, FAAO, FSLS, FCLSA, associate professor and director of the Cornea and Contact Lens Service, Indiana University School of Optometry, said in the release. “By aligning the multifocal optics over the visual axis, which in soft multifocal contact lenses has been shown to provide patients with clear vision over near, intermediate and far distances, the Zen multifocal design is well-suited for a wide range of customized presbyopic lens wearers.”
Eye care providers will be able to continue using the current Zenlens or Zen RC diagnostic sets for fitting patients, according to Bausch + Lomb’s release. The multifocal design also offers variable near zones from 1.5 mm to 3.0 mm in 0.5-mm increments and add power ranges from +1.00 D to +3.50 D in 0.25-D increments.
“Bausch + Lomb is committed to driving innovation in the field of scleral lens technology. We are pleased that eye care professionals can now offer their scleral lens patients with presbyopia a new option that incorporates the benefits of our Zenlens and Zen RC portfolio,” John Ferris, general manager, U.S. Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb, said in the release.
