ABB Optical Group announced that its specialty lens lab has been approved by Contamac to manufacture gas-permeable contact lenses in the Optimum line of GP materials with Tangible Hydra-PEG surface coating technology.

Tangible Hydra-PEG is a contact lens coating that encapsulates the Optimum GP material in an ultra-thin layer of a PEG-based polymer (polyethylene glycol), creating a lens surface with improved wettability and lubricity, according to a press release from ABB.

“Tangible Hydra-PEG is truly an innovation in specialty contact lenses and a real game-changer for eye care providers,” Andy Jackson, director, specialty contact lenses, for ABB Optical Group, said in the release. “We are proud to partner with Contamac to bring this exciting technology to our customers for the benefit of their patients, who can expect increased wear time, less irritation and overall improved comfort.”

Tangible Hydra-PEG is only available for lenses manufactured in Contamac materials. Additionally, trained GP consultants, knowledgeable in lens designs, fitting trends and materials, are available to assist eye care providers in fitting patients with specialty lenses.
