Warby Parker announced that it now accepts Medicare insurance, expanding availability of its prescription eye wear to 2 million people enrolled in UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans.
Patients enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans that include eye wear benefits through UnitedHealthcare Vision can purchase prescription eye wear from Warby Parker for little out-of-pocket cost, according to a press release from the health plan.
The newly expanded availability adds to a pre-existing network relationship that provides access to the company’s prescription eye wear to patients with individual and employer-sponsored plans, requiring only a copayment.
During the open enrollment season for 2019 health benefits, UnitedHealthcare aims to enhance its vision benefits for people enrolled in employer-sponsored and individual plans. Buy-up options include an additional pair package that lets patients use their UnitedHealthcare vision plan to purchase a second pair of prescription eye wear at any network provider for their normal or reduced copay and coinsurance, according to the release.
A workplace safety package is also available for employers and plan participants enrolled in both UnitedHealthcare medical and vision plans. The package provides coverage for blue-limiting eye wear or prescription safety glasses.
“Our expanded relationship with Warby Parker and additional benefit options will help support more Americans with their eye health, which is important for overall health,” John Ryan, general manager of UnitedHealthcare Vision, said in the release. “We know Baby Boomers are looking for a more convenient and personalized health care experience, and we believe they will find Warby Parker’s innovative model both appealing and affordable as they shop for eye wear.”
