In conjunction with Think About Your Eyes, a national public awareness initiative, Justin Bazan, OD, is bringing attention to the importance of vision health and catching vision issues early.

Primary Care Optometry News spoke with Bazan about what he does to emphasize vision health and how the industry can do better.

PCON: What are you doing in your practice to bring attention to vision health and catching vision problems early?

Bazan: We participated in World Sight Day! The rest of the year, in our office we educate our patients on the importance of annual comprehensive eye exams. We also help spread the word via our social media.

PCON: How can the industry, as a whole, do a better job in this area?

Bazan: [Give] more support to campaigns that raise awareness of the importance of annual comprehensive eye exams. Companies should become sponsors and help fund campaigns like Think About Your Eyes (TAYE).

PCON: How is the TAYE initiative effective?

Bazan: The more people who understand the importance of annual comprehensive eye exams, the better.

TAYE recently announced that its summer campaign amassed 130 million media impressions.

The TAYE website has seen a 200% increase in traffic compared to this time last year, garnering 2.1 million visitors in 2018, according to a press release from the group.
