Allergan announced the launch of Refresh Repair, a new addition to the Refresh portfolio that is formulated with carboxymethylcellulose, hyaluronic acid and osmoprotectants, according to a press release from the company.

“Our new Refresh artificial tear, Refresh Repair, offers eye doctors an additional option to tailor therapy to the specific needs of their patients,” Jag Dosanjh, senior vice president of Allergan U.S. Eye Care, said in the release. “Refresh Repair provides improved comfort for patients with dry eye and unique osmoprotective benefits that safeguard the health of epithelial cells against hyperosmotic stress.”

In the U.S., more than 33 million people have symptoms of dry eye, including irritation, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, burning, stinging, dryness and excessive tearing. According to the release, Refresh Repair mitigated these symptoms and improved visual performance in clinical trials.

“As dry eye science has gotten more sophisticated over the past decade, we have come to appreciate the conditions necessary for a healthy ocular surface, which Refresh Repair is designed to support,” Marc Bloomenstein, OD, said in the release.
