Bausch + Lomb offers high power cylinder in Ultra for Astigmatism
Bausch + Lomb announced the availability of Ultra for Astigmatism contact lenses with a cylinder power of -2.75 D.
“In the past when our practice had patients that required this cylinder power, we had to special order lenses and schedule a follow-up appointment,” Mile Brujic, OD, of the Premier Vision Group in Bowling Green, Ohio, said in the press release from the company. “Now, patients can be fit in the lens and take home a trial pair within the same visit, making the visit more productive while fulfilling the needs of my patients.”
According to the release, Ultra for Astigmatism contact lenses are available in power ranges from +6.00 D to -9.00 D, and the newest cylinder power option, -2.75 D, offers individuals with astigmatism higher power correction.
Bausch + Lomb said its MoistureSeal technology helps the lenses maintain 95% of their moisture for 16 years. The lenses also include Bausch + Lomb’s OpticAlign design, which allows for “stability to promote a successful first fit,” according to the release.
In an online survey as part of a Bausch + Lomb evaluation program, 91% of contact lens wearers who were prescribed Ultra for Astigmatism contact lenses agreed that the lenses were comfortable all day long. Additional survey results found that 93% of participants agreed that the lenses helped reduce halos and glares.
“This newest cylinder power option from Bausch + Lomb addresses an unmet need for innovation in high power correction for those with astigmatism, a patient segment that has traditionally been underserved through a lack of readily available options,” John Ferris, general manager for U.S. Vision Care at Bausch + Lomb, said in the release. “We are proud to offer these patients the vision care they need, now directly accessible through their eye care professionals without the added cost and inconvenience of special order lenses.”
