DENVER – Justin Schweitzer, OD, reported here at Optometry’s Meeting that in his study of 440 eyes, the iStent (Glaukos), a trabecular microbypass stent, in combination with cataract surgery lowers IOP.
Of the patients who completed 5 years in the retrospective review, IOP went from 18 mm Hg at baseline to 15 mm Hg, with a 33% reduction in medication usage, Schweitzer said. He also found that a higher IOP at baseline will result in a greater reduction in IOP after the procedure.
