As secretariat for ANSI ASC Z80, The Vision Council announced revisions and reaffirmations of eight Z80 standards.

The only entity accredited by ANSI to develop national standards in the ophthalmic optics field is ASC Z80, according to the press release from The Vision Council.

The revised 2017 standards include changes to specifications for ready-to-wear readers to now include readers with segments and power variations, such as progressive-power lenses, tints and plano power portions.

Changes were also made for slit-lamp and operation microscopes and methods of reporting optical aberrations of the eye.

No changes were made to the 2017 standards for ophthalmic laser systems for corneal reshaping, multifocal IOLs, phakic IOLs and information interchange for ophthalmic optical equipment.
