Daily disposable contact lenses led the category for dollar growth and market share nationwide in 2017, according to data from ABB Optical Group.

The 2-week lens modality declined, according to the organization’s 2017 year-in-review insights.

Daily disposable growth was up nearly 19%, ending the year with a market share of 44.6%.

The 2-week modality was down 6.8% in sales, making up 21.4% of the market share, while monthlies were up 3.8% and accounted for 33.5% market share, according to ABB’s press release.

Dollar growth of toric lenses increased nearly 10%, and multifocals were up 14%.

Bausch + Lomb and Alcon led all manufacturers in sales growth, with 10% and 9%, respectively, with Alcon leading the market in share gains for the year, according to ABB Optical.

Three products garnered the greatest year-over-year share point gain: 1-Day Oasys (Johnson & Johnson Vision Care), Dailies Total 1 Multifocal (Alcon) and 1-Day Oasys for Astigmatism (J&J).

ABB Optical also reported a 7.2% organic contact lens growth from practices that have chosen to partner with the company.
