Safilens launches daily disposable contacts for asthenopia
Safilens announced that its Fusion 1Day Vista contact lens for asthenopia is immediately available in German speaking markets and will follow in other European countries.
FDA approval in the U.S. is anticipated within 2018, according to a representative for the company.
The Fusion 1Day Vista features D-Stress design, which is based on the Afocal lens design patented by Safilens and initially introduced in the presbyopia segment, the company said in a press release.
The lens offers enhanced depth of field and is intended to reduce eye strain commonly associated with activities that over-stress proximal vision, such as prolonged digital device use.
“The controlled release of natural substitutes for the tear film from the lens to the eye surface ensures long-lasting comfort in dry environments,” Safilens said in the release.
“The aim of this lens design is to ensure an anti-fatigue effect; that is, to alleviate the symptoms of eye strain, such as dry eye and headache and, at the same time, prevent them, ensuring less accommodative stress and comfortable focus throughout the entire day,” Safilens research and development manager, Alessandro Filippo, said in the release.
