Patients with moderate-to-severe dry eye reported improvement in some clinical signs and symptoms after using Visaid 0.3% during a 1-month management period, compared to no improvements after the use of 0.9% NaCl solution.

The crossover study included 16 patients who, after a washout period of 1 week, were selected to use the experimental Visaid (0.3% hyaluronic acid artificial tear, Avizor) or control solution (0.9% NaCl), applying three to eight drops daily for 1 month.

After another washout period, patients used the other solution in the same way.

Safety parameters were similar for each solution.

After using Visaid 0.3%, patients showed significant improvements in Ocular Surface Disease Index score (–9.66%), tarsal hyperemia, corneal staining extension and subjective satisfaction, according to researchers.

When using 0.9% NaCl, Schirmer’s test results were significantly worse.

Visaid 0.3% was shown to be effective in 50.0% of the participants compared with an efficacy of 37.5% after the use of 0.9% NaCl, according to researchers. – by Abigail Sutton
