A 12-foot by 8-foot acrylic mural created by attendees and finished by artist John Park at the American Academy of Optometry meeting in Chicago was installed at the Centre for Ocular Research & Education at the University of Waterloo’s School of Optometry & Vision Science last week.
According to a press release from the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE), the piece was created to celebrate the launch of CORE, formerly known as the Centre for Contact Lens Research, which now focuses on advanced biosciences, clinical research and education.
Titled Collected Insight, the mural “depicts the complexity and wonder of the eye and vision,” according to the release.
During 3 days of the American Academy of Optometry annual meeting, the canvas was stationed in the exhibit hall, and attendees were invited to don protective lab coats and apply their own brush strokes. Los Angeles-based artist Park transformed it into the finished piece before the end of the conference.
CORE director, Lyndon Jones, PhD, FCOptom, FAAO, FBCLA, said in the release: “Reaction to the CORE brand has been universally positive, as it better illustrates how we have broadened and deepened our offerings over the past 30 years, while at the same time advancing contact lens technologies and clinical knowledge.”
The center said it will begin using its new CORE brand on a widespread basis beginning in January 2018.
