Individuals enrolled in UnitedHealthcare vision plans can access Warby Parker’s prescription eye wear at affordable prices, marking the first time the company is accepting vision insurance, according to a press release from Warby Parker.

The partnership will begin in 2018 and include people enrolled in employer-sponsored and individual vision plans. Starting next year, people with UnitedHealthcare vision will be able to purchase Warby Parker lenses online or in stores for only their copay.

“Warby Parker is constantly exploring new ways to provide people access to affordable, high-quality and fashionable eye wear,” Dave Gilboa, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, said in the release. “We look forward to working with UnitedHealthcare nationwide, to enable millions of Americans to purchase their eye wear at a fraction of the price they might pay through traditional channels.”

“While the concept of giving more patients access to affordable eye wear is terrific, this news should serve as motivation for independent practices to further differentiate themselves,” Primary Care Optometry News Editorial Board Member Monica Johnsonbaugh, OD, told PCON. – by Cassie Homer and Abigail Sutton
