Ophthalmic Resources announced at Vision Expo West the release of an electronic diagnostic algorithm for dry eye and a blink analyzer.
“[Dry eye disease] patients can often be time consuming to treat, and many eye care providers are looking for a better way to manage these patients efficiently and effectively in an everyday practice,” Doug Devries, OD, co-founder of Ophthalmic Resources, said in a press release. “Ophthalmic Resources will change this through access to proven, dynamic, electronic dry eye disease treatment protocols and education for doctors and their patients, coupled with fulfillment options to help ensure the patient’s optimum treatment compliance.”
The blink analyzer, IPEDA, and the diagnostic algorithm, OSData, will be able to speed up the process of diagnosing dry eye and allow physicians to provide better patient care, according to the release.
Ophthalmic Resources will provide affiliate eye care providers with electronic treatment protocols developed by Devries and Karpecki based on their combined 45+ years in clinical practice. Diagnosis and treatment of each individual dry eye patient will be well defined, according to the release. The patient’s progression is updated electronically at each visit, and the treatment protocol is refreshed.
Patients of affiliates can have nonprescription products shipped directly to their homes. Products can be purchased at a reduced price through the Ophthalmic Resources ordering portal.
“What is impressive about the Ophthalmic Resources algorithm is the amount of data we will produce and collect in real time,” co-founder Paul M. Karpecki, OD, said in the release. “It is our expectation that OSData will have the potential to change ‘best-in-class’ dry eye disease treatment recommendations almost immediately and, hopefully, become the catalyst for the development of new treatments and products.”
The company expects a full launch this fall.
