AOA helps optometry students affected by hurricanes
The AOA Foundation Optometry Cares has received industry-wide support to aid victims of the recent hurricanes and has also set up a program to help optometry students who have been affected.
The group reported in a press release that it has received requests from more than 80 optometrists who have been affected by the recent hurricanes and reported damages totaling more than $11.7 million.
“The AOA stands by all those affected by hurricanes Irma, Harvey and Maria and is reaching out to optometrists and optometry students, offering messages of unity and support, while encouraging all members to help colleagues in need,” Allan Barker, OD, president of the foundation’s board of directors, said in the release. “Optometry Cares works as a catalyst between corporations and AOA members to assist optometrists affected by any type of natural or manmade disaster.”
Essilor of America, Luxottica Wholesale, CooperVision, PERC+IVA, Vision West, EyeCare Partners and The Vision Council have all donated to Optometry Cares.
