This month Optometry Giving Sight is supporting the World Sight Day Challenge, which encourages members of the vision care community to raise money to support eye health projects for those who are needlessly blind or vision impaired.

The challenge centers around World Sight Day on Oct. 12, and more than 50 companies and 21 schools of optometry are fundraising during the month, according to a press release from Optometry Giving Sight.

Alcon Foundation will have 2,020 employees participating in its Cycle for Sight 20/20 Challenge, which aims to donate $25,000 to Optometry Giving Sight.

Zeiss Better Vision is selling t-shirts at their locations to raise money.

Essilor of America will be sponsoring a Kids Vision Fest, which will give more than 400 students eye exams and glasses.

Many coalition members will be using social media to raise awareness and participate in campaigns.

ABB Optical Group, as a coalition member, announced in its own press release that the company will donate a percentage of all Digital Eye Lab sales for the month of October.

“It is a privilege to lead this industry based coalition in support of the 11th annual World Sight Day Challenge in North America,” Clive Miller, CEO of Optometry Giving Sight, said in the release. “We encourage all eye and vision care companies, networks, schools and practices to take the challenge by fundraising throughout October, making a personal donation, involving friends, colleagues, staff and patients via our peer-to-peer fundraising pages and/or by purchasing t-shirts.”
