Johnson & Johnson Vision announced that it has acquired Sightbox, an online subscription service for contact lenses.

Sightbox connects patients with eye care professionals to allow them to easily schedule exams and order their contacts, according to a company press release.

“Consumer preferences and digital technologies are accelerating a broad shift to e-commerce

across many industries,” Ashley McEvoy, company group chairman, responsible for the Johnson & Johnson Vision Companies, said in the release. “We are excited about how Sightbox can potentially fuel category growth by meeting consumers where and how they want and by helping more contact lens wearers connect with eye care professionals through this concierge-type service.”

Sightbox will continue to operate as a separate business under the Johnson & Johnson Vision umbrella.

This marks the third acquisition of Johnson & Johnson in 2017, including Abbott Medical Optics and TearScience.
