LAS VEGAS – Digital Heat Corp. introduced its Portable Heated Eye Pad here at Vision Expo West.

The device is intended to treat dry eye, blepharitis, chalazion and styes, which can be caused by meibomian gland dysfunction.

The Heated Eye Pad is worn like a pair of glasses, applying heat at a pre-set, controlled temperature to a localized area over the upper eyelids. The temple and the bridge are adjustable.

Representatives from the company told Primary Care Optometry News that eye care providers are using the FDA-approved class 2 medical device for in-office dry eye therapy and also selling them over-the-counter directly to patients.

They said users typically apply the Heated Eye Pad for 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.

A power pack is now also available, providing 4 hours of mobile usage. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
