Primary Care Optometry News will co-sponsor the Ocular Surface Disease and Wellness Symposium during Vision Expo West in Las Vegas.

Jack Schaeffer

Speakers include Jack Schaeffer, OD; Paul Karpecki, OD; PCON Editorial Board member, Marc Bloomenstein, OD; and Richard Adler, MD. This team will explain how optometrists can take their practice to the next level to deliver an integrated health care model for diagnosis and treatment of ocular surface diseases (OSDs).

Paul Karpecki

The first hour of the course, “The Dry Eye Institute: The “Why” and the Integrated Health Care Model,” will cover doctor and staff responsibilities as well as basic diagnostic and treatment modalities.

Marc Bloomenstein

The second, 2-hour portion, “Ocular Surface Disease: The Diagnosis, Treatment and Clinical Aspects of Ocular Surface Disease,” will progress to advanced diagnostic and treatment strategies using case studies and a rapid-fire interactive discussion. The speakers will also cover the wellness initiative and its relation to OSD prevention.

“In today’s eye care environment, the practice of the future will have to develop into the integrated health care model,” Schaeffer told PCON. “This means the patient’s overall wellness, and the importance of preventive eye care, is in the forefront of the ocular surface disease practice today.

Richard Adler

“This course will cover topics and — most importantly — cases discussed among OSD experts and how they diagnose and treat actual patients in their practices,” he continued. “We will create a lively discussion among the speakers and engage you — the doctors — in the audience.”

The course will take place Sept. 13, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Go to west.visionexpo.com to register. - by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
