WASHINGTON – The Think About Your Eyes public awareness campaign brought in 1.1 million new eye exams in 2016, Vision Council Chief Operating Officer, Ashley Mills, told the American Optometric Association House of Delegates here at Optometry’s Meeting.

“The campaign is absolutely working,” she said. “Thank you to the AOA for their partnership and to all of you for your support.”

Mills explained that this advertising program has a “strong call to action,” explaining the importance of going to an optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam.

“In addition to generating live exams, Think About Your Eyes (TAYE) has shortened the exam cycle by 45%, and that’s incredibly significant as well,” Mills said. “Our association is committed to this, and we have been so fortunate to see AOA’s commitment and partnership from the very beginning. We have been fortunate to have the careful guidance of Drs. [Steven] Loomis and [Andrea] Thau at the table, providing expert opinion on how we should say things and what we should do so that optometry benefits.

“We are two totally different organizations,” Mills continued. “But we have a lot of common ground. TAYE is finally this vehicle where we have all found a way to come together and contribute to the industry and to the profession and are making things happen.” – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
