Mentholatum launches OTC dry eye drop
The Mentholatum Comp. announced the launch of an over-the-counter lubricant eye drop for individuals with dry eye symptoms
The new lubricant, called Rohto Dry-Aid, is designed to treat symptoms such as dryness, irritation, grittiness, burning and stinging due to overuse, laser eye surgery or dry environments, the company said in a press release.
“Rohto Dry-Aid with Liquidshield technology is formulated to help restore moisture to the entire tear film by working on all three layers to mimic a natural, healthy tear,” Meryl Reis, Mentholatum’s vice president of research and development, said in the release. “It delivers immediate and long-lasting dry eye symptom relief by enhancing tear adhesion to the surface of the eye, providing uniform moisture to the aqueous layer and slowing evaporation by replicating an even lipid layer without blur.”
In a single-center study, individuals with dry eye disease reported longer lasting relief of symptoms compared to another leading over-the-counter product.
The eye drops are available in a single 10-mL multidose bottle and will be in stores in July.
