A scholarship memorial fund has been created in honor of Harue J. Marsden, OD, MS, FAAO, who passed away on Feb. 2 after battling breast cancer.
“We will miss her charm, her wit and her dedication to our great profession,” Joseph P. Shovlin, OD, FAAO, president, American Academy of Optometry, and Primary Care Optometry News Editorial Board Member, wrote in an announcement from the academy.
The Dr. Harue J. Marsden Memorial Fund will create scholarships and a lasting tribute for a wonderful colleague, classmate and friend, according to an announcement from Ketchum University.
Marsden was a regular participant and passionate volunteer for many different academy efforts, including several committees and the Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies, Shovlin said.
“She loved the academy and everything it represents. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her,” he added.
To contribute to the Dr. Harue J. Marsden Memorial Fund, please visit Ketchum University’s website. To make a gift by mail, please make checks out to “MBKU” and indicate “IMO Dr. Marsden” in the memo line. These can be mailed directly to University Advancement, Marshall B. Ketchum University, 2575 Yorba Linda Blvd., Fullerton, CA 92831. All cards can be mailed to the same address, and the University Advancement team will forward them to the family.
Marsden was a professor and associate dean for clinical education at Southern California College of Optometry. She was a fellow of the AAO and owned two private practices.
Shovlin wrote that academy Fellow, Julie Schornack, OD, described her best: "She was just the kind of person that you wanted to learn from, to be around. We will all truly miss Harue, but her legacy will live on in the thousands of students she has educated and mentored throughout her career."
