Shovlin named new AAO president

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Joseph P. Shovlin, OD, FAAO, became the new American Academy of Optometry president, here at the academy’s annual meeting.
Shovlin has practiced at the Northeastern Eye Institute since 1985, currently in its Clarks Summit, Pa., and Scranton, Pa., offices, specializing in primary care and contact lenses.
A member of the Primary Care Optometry News Editorial Board, Shovlin is also a diplomate and past chair of the AAO Section on Cornea and Contact Lenses, past chair of the American Optometric Association’s Contact Lens Section and a former voting member of the FDA’s Ophthalmic Advisory Panel, according to the Northeastern Eye Institute website.
Shovlin is joined on the academy’s board by president-elect Barbara Caffery, OD, PhD, FAAO; immediate past president Brett G. Bence, OD, FAAO; and secretary-treasurer Timothy T. McMahon, OD, FAAO.
At-large board members include Jeffrey J. Walline, OD, PhD, FAAO; Susan A. Cotter, OD, MS, FAAO; Pete S. Kollbaum, OD, PhD, FAAO; and new board member Carl H. Spear, OD, MBA, FAAO.
