Hoya Vision Care announced a definitive agreement to acquire the safety prescription eye wear business of 3M, which has more than 90 years of experience in North America, according to a press release.

The deal will provide Hoya with a comprehensive line of frames, prescription lenses and premium coating options in a custom-made solution, serviced by a network of eye care professionals, according to the company.

The business also provides safety prescription eye wear and frames in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Hoya will acquire only the prescription part of 3M’s safety eye wear business, which employs 140 people, including an optical laboratory facility in Plymouth, Ind., according to the release.

The transaction is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2017.
