LAS VEGAS – Nagoya, Japan-based Asahi Vision announced the introduction of two products to the U.S. eye care market, the aLC-100 Lens Checker and aLM-100 Basic Lensmeter, here at Vision Expo West.

The Lens Checker connects easily to a PC or tablet with a USB cable. Asahi’s Jason M. Hanni told Primary Care Optometry News that the Lens Checker software gets loaded onto an existing office computer.

The illumination can be switched between bright-field or dark-field to enable checking contact lens or spectacle lenses for scratches, impurities or damage.

The auto lensmeter has a 4.3-inch color touch panel, an improved optical system that predicts lens type and switches modes for precise measuring, and is compatible with high curved lenses, such as sports lenses or goggles, according to the company’s website. The device also includes a sleep mode, where it will enter a power saving mode should it not be used for a set period of time.

Hanni said that the products will be available over the next few months.

The company was founded in 2014 and is focused on supporting eye care practices all around the world with reliable and easy-to-use, state-of-the-art Japanese technology, according to its website.

Hanni said Asahi employs 20 people in Japan and is gauging interest level in the U.S. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO, and Abigail Sutton
