BOSTON – Neuropsychologist and neuroscientist Peter J. Snyder, PhD, said SD-OCT may eventually allow optometrists to screen for Alzheimer’s disease.
In his studies of biomarkers for early detection of Alzheimer’s in preclinical disease, Snyder said here at Optometry’s meeting that it has a 20- to 30-year prodrome. “The earlier we can detect the disease, the earlier we may be able to intervene and develop drugs that can slow the progression as early as possible,” he said.
