LAS VEGAS – A company that launched its products online 1 year ago is now partnering with eye care providers to distribute customized collections of multiple frames and/or lenses to patients.

Frameri executives told Primary Care Optometry News here at Vision Expo West that patients can create collections consisting of multiple prescription, plano and sun lenses with several frames of different colors. All the lenses are made to fit all the frames chosen, and the patient can customize his or her own eye wear on demand.

Frameri COO Greg Lechner told PCON that the products were made available online 1 year ago to determine what worked and what customers wanted. Now the company is launching to ECPs with an exclusive frame line, including the upscale Frameri X.

“People want to touch and feel the product,” Lechner said.

Frameri founder and CEO Konrad Billetz said the company plans to use the website as an educational tool and refer patients to ECPs.

Lechner said the flexible frames are handmade in Italy with Mazzuchelli acetate. The company makes the lenses in its own lab but plans on partnering with Hoya and other labs to provide processing. He said the frames can accompany any lens parameters.

“It’s a great product for Millennials,” Billetz said.

Lechner said they have been “surprised to see the appeal with Baby Boomer progressive wearers.”

The company hopes to partner with 50 to 60 eye care practices by the end of the year, but “quality is more important than the numbers,” Lechner said. “We are looking for ECPs to share our vision of a good experience for the patient.” – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO
