The Vision Impact Institute announced several developments following the organization's first advisory board meeting of the year in July.

As detailed in its press release, the Vision Impact Institute has registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is funded by the Essilor Social Impact Fund.

During the meeting, the Vision Impact Institute also worked with the African Vision Research Institute to identify gaps in uncorrected refractive error research, as detailed in the release. The institute added global studies as well as region-specific studies to a new area of its website focused on adults and presbyopia.

“We passionately believe that the key to impacting change for vision health is utilizing research to strengthen and support advocacy objectives,” Maureen Cavanagh, president of the Vision Impact Institute, said in the release. “Our growing body of evidence is critical as we aim to reinforce the importance of healthy vision and the benefits of vision correction and support the argument on a global scale that eye health should be considered a priority of general health.”

The Vision Impact Institute also noted in its release that it will be represented at the 1st World Congress of Optometry in Medellin, Colombia, in mid-August.

Additionally, each of its five board members have committed to a 2-year extension.
