LAS VEGAS – CooperVision announced Thursday that it will apply a unilateral pricing policy for its Clariti family of daily disposable silicone hydrogels.

CooperVision North America President Bob Ferrigno told Primary Care Optometry News in an interview here at Vision Expo West that the company has no plans to utilize a unilateral pricing policy (UPP) for CooperVision-branded products. However, Sauflon, which CooperVision recently acquired, “brought Clariti to market with UPP, and CooperVision will uphold that.”

Ferrigno added that the Sauflon Clariti contact lens portfolio complements the existing CooperVision product line and enables the company to provide three tiers of daily disposable contact lenses.

The Proclear 1-Days are what Ferrigno referred to as the company’s “good” tier. The Clariti line is the “better” daily disposable option “set at a price point to increase the number of wearers,” he said.

What he considers the company’s “best” option will be the MyDay product set to be launched in March. Already available in Europe, this daily disposable silicone hydrogel will have a higher water content, a lower modulus and a higher price point.

Ferrigno noted that the Sauflon acquisition has added 45 CooperVision staff globally, and as of Nov. 1 “we will have one united U.S. team,” he said.

Ferrigno also said that LensFerry, its ecommerce product for eye care practices, is currently in beta testing at 12 sites. The service offers direct shipping to patients, refill reminders and appointment reminders. The testing will expand to 150 sites and then the service will launch broadly in January, he said. –Nancy Hemphill, ELS
