Through its subsidiary, WebSystem3 LLC, CooperVision Inc. announced the launch of LensFerry, which enables patients to order replacement contact lenses via a mobile device, computer or tablet.
According a press release issued Thursday, LensFerry is in a beta release in the U.S.
The technology allows patients to order replacement lenses from any manufacturer, and the contact lenses will be shipped directly to their homes.
As noted in the release, the practice receives the same revenue as if the lenses were ordered at their office, and all communication that wearers receive from LensFerry can be customized with the practice's name and logo.
“What’s key to operating a successful eye care practice is not only delivering optimal clinical care, but also providing the most convenient way for wearers to purchase their lenses,” Jeremy Godsil, general manager of WebSystem3, said in the CooperVision press release. “With LensFerry, we’ve created an e-commerce contact lens ordering solution branded specifically to each individual practice. It meets practices’ needs in today’s digital-commerce driven world, enhancing wearer convenience and compliance while deepening the practitioner-wearer relationship. In doing so, it also provides the potential to increase the eye care practitioner’s contact lens revenue.”
After an in-office visit, practitioners enroll the contact lens wearer and verify their prescription, according to the release. Wearers then select their lenses and apply insurance benefits and potential manufacturer rebates. Through ABB Optical, the lenses are shipped to the wearer's home. LensFerry also allows eye care providers to send email and text reminders to the wearer.
As detailed in the release, LensFerry will be offered as part of WebSystem3's EyeCare Prime suite later this year.
