PHILADELPHIA – Johnson & Johnson Vision Care released statements here at Optometry’s Meeting regarding the company’s Acuvue Oasys brand and Acuvue Advance brand contact lenses.
Acuvue Oasys is now available in a 6-month supply pack, with 12 lenses per box, according to the announcement. The 3-month supply packs containing six lenses per box will be discontinued July 1.
“In a study that captured actual product use among Acuvue Oasys brand 3-month and annual supply users across a 4-month time period, research showed that patients with larger pack sizes tended to be more compliant in replacing their lenses biweekly as recommended by their doctor and had a significantly better wearing experience with respect to better comfort throughout the day, at the end of the day and throughout the wear cycle,” Laura Angelini, president, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Companies, North America, said in the release. “Additionally, patients with larger pack sizes said they were more likely to return to their doctor the next time they need an eye exam.”
The company also announced that Acuvue Advance brand contact lenses, Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism and Acuvue Advance Plus will be discontinued as revenue lenses and will no longer be available for sale from the company.
Diagnostic lenses for Acuvue Advance and Advance for Astigmatism had previously been discontinued, and those for Acuvue Advance Plus will be discontinued Aug. 1.
“As we continue to invest heavily in research and development of new and improved products that offer benefits beyond vision correction, we have made the decision to discontinue production of some of our older technology,” Angelini said in the press release.
