AAO announces 2014 award winners

The American Academy of Optometry recently announced its annual award recipients for contributions in advancing the profession of optometry.

According to the press release, award winners will be recognized during the academy’s annual meeting in Denver.

Brien A. Holden, PhD, DSc, FAAO, will receive the Charles F. Prentice Medal and Lecture Award. Lyndon Jones, FCOptom, PhD, FAAO, will receive the Glenn A. Fry Award and Lecture (American Optometric Foundation Award). Laura E. Downie, BOptom, PhD, FAAO, will receive the Irvin M. and Beatrice Borish Award. Tone Garaas-Maurdalen will receive the American Academy of Optometry-Essilor Award for Outstanding International Contributions to Optometry. Serge Resnikoff, MD, PhD, will receive the Carel C. Koch Memorial Award.

The popular lecture team of Ron Melton, OD, FAAO, and Randall K. Thomas, OD, MPH, FAAO, who are also Primary Care Optometry News Editorial Board members, will receive the Vincent Ellerbrock Clinician Educator Award.

Satya B. Verma, OD, FAAO, will receive a Life Fellow Award. Colleagues Neville A. McBrien, MCOptom, PhD; Andrew I. Jobling; and Alex Gentle, PhD, FAAO, will receive the Garland W. Clay Award. Edward J. Revelli, OD, FAAO, will receive the Michael G. Harris Award for Excellence in Optometric Education (American Optometric Foundation Award).
