Escalon Medical Corp. has entered into an agreement with BiCom Inc. to distribute its transpalpebral Diaton tonometer, according to a recent press release.

As detailed in the release, the Diaton tonometer is used through the eyelid to measure intraocular pressure without touching the cornea and without topical anesthesia.

"We are excited to offer the Diaton tonometer as a complementary product to our pachymetry ultrasound products," Richard J. DePiano Jr., CEO of the company, said in the release. "Through our experienced sales organization with reach into 90 countries, we are well positioned to expand distribution of the Diaton tonometer, particularly into Asia and Europe. Adding best-in-class ophthalmic product solutions to our distribution network also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to build on our position as a leader in ophthalmic diagnostic instrumentation."

In a brochure for the product, Sonomed Escalon describes that the tonometer is ideal for pediatric patients, chronic conjunctivitis, patients who have undergone corneal surgery, corneal erosions or edema and in cases of eye trauma.

"The item is now available through Sonomed Escalon and will be added to our website as soon as possible, joining our product line of ophthalmic ultrasound systems, Axis Image management solutions and our surgical products," Barry Durante, president of Sonomed Escalon, told Primary Care Optometry News.
