NEW YORK – Executives from Sauflon and Vision Source announced at a joint press conference here at Vision Expo East that the contact lens manufacturer has introduced a portfolio of daily disposable silicone hydrogel contact lenses through the network of privately practicing optometrists.
The Fresh Day portfolio includes spherical, toric and multifocal lenses, the company representatives said.
Vision Source executive vice president of operations, Derrick Artis, OD, MBA, said at the press conference, “Daily disposable is the fastest growing category. Silicone products are the best products in the space. To combine daily disposable and silicone was a no-brainer. Our doctors are excited because we’re launching in spherical, toric and multifocal and we’re able to bring the product at an affordable price point to the consumer.”
According to Sauflon’s executive vice president of technical and scientific affairs, Rick Franz, OD, Fresh Day lenses will be launched nationwide through the Vision Source network of more than 5,000 optometrists in April.
“We will be launching a Sauflon-branded line of Clariti contact lenses in the three modalities after the launch of Fresh Day, to all optometrists,” he said.
Franz told attendees at the press conference that Vision Source doctors fit 496 patients with the lenses during a testing phase.
“More than 98% of the patients were fit successfully vision-wise, 93% rated the lens either extremely comfortable or comfortable, and 98% of doctors said they would recommend the product to their colleagues,” he said.
Sauflon president of U.S. sales and marketing, Brad Jones, said the privately-owned British company was established in 1985 as a global manufacturer of contact lenses and aftercare solutions. They have three major manufacturing facilities, sales offices in 15 countries, and product sales in more than 100 countries.
“Our breakthrough technology allows us to offer silicone hydrogels at the cost of hydrogel lenses,” he said. – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS
