At the opening plenary session kicking off the Envision Conference, August Colenbrander, MD, PhD, and Alex Bowers, MC(Optom), PhD, were presented with the 2013 Envision Oculus Award and the Envision Award in Low Vision Research, respectively, according to an Envision press release.

The Envision Oculus Award is presented to individuals or organizations whose efforts in professional collaboration, advocacy, research or education have had a significant national or international impact on people who are blind or have low vision, the release said.

The Envision Award in Low Vision Research is presented annually to a mid-career senior investigator in low vision and vision rehabilitation research and acknowledges outstanding low vision research by a scientist having 6 or more years post-terminal or professional degree research, according to the release.

Through Saturday, the conference will provide content on pediatric low vision, reading, vision optics, comorbidity, bioptics, low vision care givers, common eye diseases, generational theory and vision rehabilitation and mobility.
