There is still time to register for the fall educational symposium sponsored by the Ocular Nutrition Society. The meeting will be held Oct. 22 in the Washington State Convention Center in downtown Seattle, just 1 day prior to the American Academy of Optometry annual meeting.
The theme for this symposium is “Lifestyle-related disease prevention.”
Robert Lustig, MD, will address metabolic syndrome and why children are getting it. He was featured on “60 Minutes on CBS” last year and is the author of Sugar: The Bitter Truth.
Larry Alexander, OD, will discuss the logic of behavioral modification in glaucoma.
Daniel Pompa, DC, will cover intracellular healing and detoxification.
Stuart Richer, OD, PhD, will analyze the lessons learned from the Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2.
Jonathan Wright, MD, will explain how to diagnose and treat type 2 diabetes before it occurs.
Paul Chous, OD, will outline the Diabetes Visual Function Supplement Study, which is sponsored by ZeaVision and currently recruiting patients. According to clinicaltrials.gov, the study will evaluate the effects of a multicomponent dietary supplement on the visual function and retinal structure of patients with diabetes, with and without mild to moderate diabetic retinopathy.
All courses are COPE-approved and the program will start promptly at 9 a.m. The “Cabernet, chocolate and chatter” social hour will follow the program.
