SAN DIEGO — Quantel Medical announced the launch of its Compact Touch ultrasound biomicroscopy system in the U.S. at a press conference here at Optometry’s Meeting.

This portable diagnostic ultrasound system allows clinicians to diagnose and obtain measurements of the eye’s anterior segment as well as structures behind the iris and pigmented tissues, according to a company press release.

Some of its clinical applications include artifact-free measurement of the anterior chamber angle in glaucoma, plateau iris, differentiation of tumors and cysts, and lens/IOL anatomy, the release said.

The Compact Touch’s linear scanning technology utilizes an electromagnetic linear motor, which optimizes image acquisition and resolution, in a lightweight design, according to the release.
