SAN DIEGO – Participants in a roundtable discussion held here at Optometry’s Meeting offered tips on prescribing eyeglasses to children.

The event, sponsored by Hoya Vision Care North America and PPG Industries, included a panel of optometrists who each have a great deal of experience in treating children. Discussions included indentifying important factors to consider when recommending eyeglasses for children, issues related to eye wear care and compliance, the connection between eye health and overall health and the role of vision in classroom performance and behavior.

Participants of the roundtable were also presented with results from a national consumer survey commissioned by PPG, which sparked conversation about how to engage parents and children on eye wear care and compliance. The results suggested that more education is needed among eye care professionals, parents and children for children to fully understand the importance of taking care of their eyeglasses.
