NEW YORK — The Vision Council and the American Optometric Association have joined to relaunch the Think About Your Eyes campaign for national public awareness of vision health, the Vision Council announced at a press conference here at Vision Expo East.

The campaign was launched initially in 2010 in the hopes that it could change an individual’s eye care behavior on a broad scale. The 2010 initiative reached approximately 25% of the U.S. with overall eye exams increasing by 7.9% that year, according to a press release.

“With results like that, imagine the impact we can have on a national scale as we combine the strengths of the Vision Council, the leading industry association, and the AOA, the leading professional association,” Ed Greene, CEO of the Vision Council, said during the conference.

The Think About Your Eyes campaign will be available through television, print and online advertising along with social media outlets, Greene said.

“To reach its full potential, we’ll have to have the full eye care community’s support,” Greene said.

“We are dedicated to engaging our membership of optometrists across the country to make a difference in the overall eye health of the public,” Barry Barresi, AOA executive director, said.

The program is also supported by Essilor of America and Luxottica, according to the release.
