NEW YORK — Diopsys Inc. debuted its new pattern electroretinography vision test, the NOVA-pERG software, here at Vision Expo East.

The software is easy to use, can be installed in existing NOVA devices and gives clinicians immediate results in easy-to-read reports, according to a company press release.

The new test helps doctors assess retinal function, particularly the performance of the macula, while the visual evoked potential test assesses the visual pathway, the release said.

“The Diopsys NOVA-pERG is an important addition to our suite of tests because, in one sitting, an eye care practitioner can objectively measure the function of the patient’s retina while also measuring the function of the entire visual system, from eye to visual cortex,” Alberto Gonzalez, Diopsys research director, said in the release. “This will help doctors objectively distinguish between retinal and cortical pathway issues.”
