NEW YORK — PPG Industries announced the launch of Tribrid high-index lens technology in North America at a press conference here at Vision Expo East.

"Tribrid expands upon the foundation of Trivex material that North American opticians have come to trust — clarity, light weight, strength and UV protection — and makes similar attributes available in a high-index lens to meet the everyday visual needs of patients with higher-prescription requirements,” Christine Camsuzou, PPG general manager, optical materials, said during the conference.

The lenses features clarity of Abbe number 41, has a density of 1.23 g per cubic centimeter and refractive index of 1.60, and protects against 100% of UV radiation. Tribrid is compatible with digital, free-form processing and antireflective coatings, according to a press release.

Tribrid product is expected to hit the market in late spring in single vision, clear and transitions, Camsuzou said.

Also, while the price point of Tribrid has not been firmly established yet, it will be an upgrade from the Trivex material, she said.

Thai Optical Group and X-Cel Optical Company have partnered with PPG Industries to help launch the lens material.
